LOOSE DIAMONDS
End product that started with a rough diamond that came out from the mine after a series of cutting and polishing. Loose diamond is a diamond that is ready for sale and ready to be mounted on a ring, a pendant, earring or any piece of jewellery. All major appraisal companies will only certify a diamond when it is loose and never when it is mounted.
MATCHING PAIRS
Matching certified diamonds for earrings or for side stones in a three stone ring requires the diamonds be close in size, colour, clarity and of course cut quality. However, they do not have to be identical in order to match well visually. Whether sourcing a pair diamonds for earrings, as a gift or as an investment, get in touch with us and we will find the matching pair that suits all your needs.
COLOURED DIAMONDS
Commonly confused with the variations of white diamonds, coloured diamonds refer to the fancy colours that are much rarer in the world of diamonds. With colours ranging from yellow, red, blue, pink and grey you can select the intensity of the colour which refers to how deep the colour is and the higher the intensity the rarer the diamond.
TIPS & TRICKS
Here at SOFIA GEM we have a wide collection of stunning and unique diamond jewellery, varying in colour, cuts and sizes, allowing you to create a fashion-forward statement, whatever your style. We understand that buying a diamond can be overwhelming at times, that is why we have listed out a few tips on how to save money without compromising on the quality of the diamond or the ring you want.
1. Slight Inclusions - Diamonds with slight inclusions (SI1, SI2 or SI3) can save you thousands of dollar, as opposed to buying a flawless diamond. These flaws are only visible with magnification.
2. Less Than One Carat - Instead of purchasing a one carat diamond, try going for something with less weight, from 0.90 to 0.99. Generally speaking, prices seem to skyrocket at every whole carat, therefore less brings more savings.
3. Colour - Near colourless diamonds graded G to J are not all that different from their cousins in the D to F (colourless) category to the naked eye. However, the G to J graded diamonds will be more cost effective.
4. Metals - When choosing metals to accompany your diamond; white gold and palladium universally fetch cheaper prices. Palladium is also a great hypoallergenic choice.
5. 14K Better Than 18K - Selecting 14 karat instead of 18 karat gold will dramatically allow you to obtain your ring setting for a lesser price without sacrificing the quality of the jewellery piece. As for white gold, the lesser the pure gold content, the whiter the metal will look, thus the more durable and in extent more affordable it will be.
